Out of favour Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi, on Sunday, announced his retirement from international cricket, ending a career lasting 21 years. He had announced his retirement once before as well, only to make a return.

The 36-year-old has earlier retired from Tests and ODIs, but continued to play T20, and even led Pakistan at the 2016 World T20. He later stepped down as captain, but could not keep his place in the team as a player.

Afridi is most famous for hitting a 37-ball century against Sri Lanka in only his second match in 1996. It was a record for the fastest hundred, which stood for 17 years.

Afridi played a key role in Pakistan’s victory in the World T20 in 2009. In a career lasting over two decades, he played 27 Test matches, and scored 1,176 runs with a highest of 156. With the ball, he claimed 48 wickets.

In ODIs, he tasted great success, with 8,064 runs in 398 one-day internationals with a highest of 124, and was often deadly with his leg spin, with which he took 395 wickets.

In T20s, he featured in 98 matches, scored 1,405 runs and claimed 97 wickets.
