Australian batsmen have finally seems to find its feet in English conditions but its too late now. The importance of this match in very low in context of the series but visitors should be delighted with the fact that two of their future stars, David Warner and Steve Smith have performed. Australia was on 287/3 when bad light stopped the play with 79.4 overs were bowled on day 1 of the Oval Test.

Alastair Cook won the toss and elected to bowl first under heavy skies. Australian were in too mind about the pitch as the horrific defeat in the last two match is still in their mind. The play of day 1 of Edgbaston and Trent Bridge was so thrill that the vistiors wicket fallen like pins there. Australia were bowled out for 136 in the first inning of third Test at Edgbaston and in the first inning of the fourth Test, visitors were bowled out for mere 60 in just 18.3 overs. But, David Warner and Chris Rogers survived the first session. They played very cautiously in the first hour and then Warner opened up in the second. Batsmen were helped by the poor length of English bowlers as they struggled to bowl the right length whole day. There were too much help from the pitch for the bowlers but England were not able to exploit that.

Warner and Rogers added a century run partnership before latter was caught in the slip by Cook off Mark Wood for 43. Chris Rogers will retire from international cricket after this Test match. Warner settled in after Rogers dismissal and completed his fifty but just when he was moving towards his first century of this series, Moeen Ali again came in top of Warner. Moeen generated the turn to get the outside edge of Warner’s bat and Adam Lyth took it comfortably. Moeen Ali have now dismissed Warner 4 times in 77 deliveries now. Warner scored 85, his fifth half-century of this series without any ton. Steven Smith struggled early in his inning and the rythm with which he bats was missing. But he struck at the crease and didn’t thrown his wicket away help him immensly and later he seemed to be clicked.

English players welcomed Michale Clarke to the crease with a guard of honor and he was warmly applauded when he left the crease 29 balls later with 15 runs to his name. Clarke may have failed in this again but there is a heavy possibility of him getting another go.

The vice-captain, Steve Smith was 78* and Adam Voges 47* at the close of day 1 of the Oval Test.
